The following rules and guidelines have been established for the safety of all who come to
The Breaks. By its very nature mountain biking is a hazardous undertaking so, by creating and enforcing these
rules, our goal is to minimize injury to our guests and damage to the ecologically sensitive environment within which The Breaks resides.
A waiver of liability must be signed by every adult before using the facilities. Waivers are printed on the back of the pay envelopes at the
pay station. Children under the age of thirteen enter and ride free but must always be accompanied by an adult.
We conform to the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) “Rules of the Trail”. In particular, all riders MUST wear helmets.
Pets are welcome and are free to accompany their owner on rides. When in camp we do ask that they be either leashed or kept under strict control to avoid problems with other guests.
We expect our guests to enjoy themselves so a reasonable level of partying is recommended. We also expect our guests to exercise intoxication control and noise management in consideration of all guests.
To minimize potentially unpleasant encounters with reptiles, unfamiliar plants and insects we strongly recommend that you not wander off of the designated trails. You are far from the city here and in a region retaining a great degree of its original wilderness character.
Night riding is allowed (and recommended for the more experienced riders) on all trails except the Devil's Backbone. We do however, require a daytime familiarization pre-ride to minimize potentially serious injuries. Handlebar and/or helmet lights are mandatory.

IMPORTANT FIRE HAZARD RULES
In early 2006 tens of thousands of acres of farm and ranch land in north Texas were ravaged by flash grass fires due to carelessness. Burn bans in the area must be strictly observed and local
authorities strictly enforce them.
When burn ban is not in effect we recommend guests have campfires. We require that these be kept within established fire rings and ask that due diligence be exercised in extinguishing them prior to departure. The gathering of dead wood for campfires is allowed.
If you choose to smoke please restrict these activities to the camping area.
